About Me

If you have been reading my posts for a while (or you already know me personally), you will have an idea of what makes me tick. If not, here is a quick overview:

Technology

  • I am passionate about Mac computers. I have owned Macs since 1987, so there is very little I don’t know about them. If you have a Mac related problem, chances are I have an answer for you.
  • Actually, I guess you could say I am a technology addict. I love checking out the latest gadgets and software, and not just from a user perspective. I love digging under the hood and getting to know how things work.
  • My latest technology passion is web development. There is so much that can be done with standards compliant XTHML and CSS. Throw in a healthy dose of Javascript and PHP and the world (wide web) is your oyster.

Work-Life Balance

  • I work to live, not the other way around. I love spending time with my wife and I am very much looking forward to the arrival of our new baby. I certainly don't subscribe to the corporate ladder climbing 12 hour day strategy.
  • In fact, I am not even a fan of the 8 hour day. For many years I have been looking for a way to earn a living without having to spend 9 to 10 hours away from my loved ones. Finally, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (keep an eye on my posts for details).

Personal Development

  • I believe political correctness has gone WAY too far. What ever happened to common sense?
  • Personal responsibility is something I am really big on. Only by taking responsibility for our own actions can we achieve our full potential. Mind you, I also think there is a big difference between responsibility and blame.
  • I love learning! I love learning about how the mind works. I love learning about technology. I love learning new skills. I love learning, full stop.
  • One of my new mentors has a wonderful quote that I have taken on as my mantra:

I believe we all have potential, and none of us have reached that potential yet.

Health

  • A good deal of today's medical epidemics can be traced to changes in the food we consume. I believe we should eat natural, organic and biodynamic foods wherever possible in order to boost our immune systems. I also believe in eating low HI foods (HI = Human Interference).
  • Society is way too dependent on doctors. Don't get me wrong - if I am in an accident or some other emergency, then I definitely want to see a doctor. But I don't believe they are of any use for chronic conditions - all they do is push the drugs they have been told to use (and ALL drugs have side effects). There are plenty of natural alternatives for chronic conditions.
  • I like sport - not just watching it, but actually playing it. I think the "obesity epidemic" could be solved if only people tried more sports until they found something active they liked.

I like to think of myself as a critical thinker. I believe that everyone that says or writes anything has a reason for doing so. I like to look at the reasons why the person may be saying what they are, as well as whether it actually makes sense, before believing in it. I find it amazing how many people simply believe everything they hear and/or read.

You will notice that I have opinions, and I am not afraid to share them. I also don’t really care if other’s don’t agree with me - that is their right. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, which I believe they are free to share - as long as they don't try to force them on anyone else.

You will probably notice that some of my points of view are a little different to the majority of the population. This does not bother me at all. In fact, I take it as a sign that I am on the right path, because I am looking for different results to the majority of society.
