I know, it has been well over a week since I first mentioned my big plan for financial freedom. No, I haven't been holding out on you, I have just been relaxing and enjoying the Christmas break.
Given it is now New Year's Eve, it is the ideal time to commit my plan to print - it can also double as my new year's resolution. And, as an added bonus, I am now publicly accountable for ensuring I follow through on the plan.
So, this is my grand plan for 2008:

I don’t normally read newspapers, mainly because I don’t subscribe to their "sky is falling" philosophy. But I do regularly glance at the headlines because they are often good for a laugh. Today was one of those days.
Let me set the scene for those that don’t live in Australia …
Most of the country is in the longest drought on record. Water reserves are low and people are praying for rain.
So what do you think happens when the rain finally falls? Do the papers run stories titled "Finally, The Rain We Need"? No. Instead, we get this headline on the front page of the Herald Sun (one of the main papers in Melbourne):
"Flooding And Chaos As Deluge Lashes Melbourne"
Guess some people are only happy when they are complaining!

I know you came here today looking for the answer. Well, I have some good news and some bad news …
First the bad news:
As with most things in life, it’s not a quick fix. In fact, I will probably spread the discussion over a number of posts (starting with the overview some time in the next couple of days).
Now the good news:
I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.
It covers:
- The best blogging techniques.
- How to get traffic to your blog.
- How to turn your blog into money.
I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

Have you ever noticed the same things happening over and over in your life? Have you ever wondered why?
Or maybe it seems that bad things just keep happening to you and you have no idea why.
My personal belief has long been that the universe/God/<insert personal belief system here> keeps sending you the message, louder and louder, until you take notice and learn. Despite this belief, I have to admit I am still a bit of a slow learner at times.

Earlier this week I committed to myself that I would get back into peak physical fitness before my wife gives birth to our baby (she is about 4 month pregnant at the moment). There were two main factors that prompted me to make this commitment:
- I had just spent a couple of hours playing with my 3 year old niece and realised that she still had plenty of energy at the end of it and I didn’t. If I had trouble keeping up with a young child I played with once or twice a week, how did I expect to keep up with my own child growing up?
- I recalled that the last couple of times I have played touch I have not had the speed or stamina that I used to. For someone who has always prided myself on my level of fitness and sporting ability, this was a tough admission to make.

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time.
I have been sharing my opinions with those around me long enough that they have got sick of being my only outlet. So I thought it was time to take my opinions to the web and see who might be interested in listening.
If nothing else, it will at least give my family a bit of respite.
